B.I.G. Love Cancer Care Services, a 501 c(3) nonprofit, was established in February 2007 in honor of our five year old daughter, Brooke Alyson Phillips, after her battle with acute myeloid leukemia. After two years of fighting courageously through intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, Brooke passed away on September 29, 2006.Although she taught us many things throughout her two years of treatment like how to trust, believe, persevere, and have faith, she also taught us how deep and wide love can really be. She had a special love for all her people, and she never ceased in expressing it. Even during her last days in the intensive care unit, she still managed to love BIG all her people. She sent out hundreds of kisses and gave the I Love You sign to everyone in the room. She told us repeatedly, "I love you up to the sky." Brooke's Incredible Gift (B.I.G.) is Love.
It is our desire to honor Brooke by serving and extending big love to other cancer kids and their families in hopes of easing the childhood cancer journey.
B.I.G. Love Cancer Care fulfills weekly wishes of cancer kids and their families as well as providing new diagnosis gift bags, weekly toys, parking passes, holiday gift baskets, catered meals and a comfort cart.
The Austin Zoo is a non-profit Rescue, Rehabilitation, Educational, and Habitat preservation located in the beautiful Hill Country outside of Austin. The Austin Zoo is a 100 acre site with educational and animal care staff and serves as a sanctuary for rescued animals as well as an educational tool for visitors and the community. Their family of animals includes both domestic and exotic species. The outskirts of the Austin Zoo showcase the Central Texas Hill Country and the Austin Zoo’s Prairie Restoration and Wildlife Habitat Enhancement projects. In all, the Austin Zoo is home to over 400 animals representing over 100 species. Ninety percent of these animals are rescues or owner released pets. Keeper staff, educators and a number of volunteers combine to keep both the animals and visitors happy and entertained. The Austin Texas Parrothead Club has proudly sponsored Parrots at the Austin Zoo for the last 7 years. Annual donations are made to the Zoo specifically to help offset the costs of caring for these birds. The The Alzheimer’s Association - Capital of TX Chapter is a non-profit organization that provides family support, community education, public awareness and supports research for the prevention, cure and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Their mission is to provide leadership to enhance care and support services for individuals and their families while supporting the advancement of research to eliminate Alzheimer's disease. The Austin Texas Parrothead Club participated annually in the Alzheimer's’ Annual Austin Memory Walk. This is the Alzheimer's Association’s national signature event to help those battling Alzheimer's disease. Memory Walk has raised over $120 million nationally since it began in 1989. As this is a disease that touches everyone’s life at some time (including Jimmy Buffett’s) the Austin Texas Parrothead Club looks forward to this event each year and the opportunity to make a difference in such a very worthy cause. The Dell Children's Half Pint Library is located in the Family Resource Center. Children's books, donated by various individuals and organizations in the community, are available for patients and their siblings to read. They can also take up to three books each home for free.
The Central Texas Food Bank, a 501c(3) non-profit, works with food donors across the country, financial supporters and volunteers to fill unmet needs in Central Texas. This commitment from private, government and charitable partners has allowed us to bring 31 million meals to our community last year and into the hands of families and local nonprofits that turn to us for help.
We believe there’s strength in numbers and in working together. We are members of Feeding America and Feeding Texas (formerly the Texas Food Bank Network). Our service territory includes: Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Coryell, Falls, Fayette, Freestone, Gillespie, Hays, Lampasas, Lee, Limestone, Llano, McLennan, Milam, Mills, San Saba, Travis and Williamson counties. Roughly 250 Partner Agencies have joined us to serve families in 21 Central Texas counties at soup kitchens, food pantries, after-school programs, snack programs and other service sites.
A leader in the fight against hunger for nearly 35 years, our mission is to nourish hungry people and lead the community in the fight against hunger.
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
Keep Austin Beautiful (KAB) inspires and educates individuals and our community towards greater environmental stewardship. KAB's goal is to Clean - Removing litter from our neighborhoods, streets, schools, parks, and public spaces, and promoting a litter-free Austin. Beautify - Empowering and supporting schools, neighborhood groups and local businesses in efforts to beautify their communities and restore habitats. Educate - Promoting environmental stewardship through presentations, hands-on activities and service-learning projects.
